The Cast Iron Father Time Sundial - Decor
This popular turn of the century dial features Browning's famous poem popularized by John Lennon's song adaptation, Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be. In the 19th century a trend developed in Britain & America towards a more affordable alternative to bronze. Something that could be used more widely by the general public as opposed to the class exclusivity of the more refined metals. This period through the early 20th century became the glory years of cast iron with everything from statues to fountains being produced. Unlike brass & bronze, cast iron traditionally has a painted finish. Many collectors of cast iron garden art prefer to let the original finish take on a natural rust patina process. Of course, as with cast iron garden furniture, the piece can always be repainted or covered with a lacquer if desired. 11.5 inches in diameter.
