From the beginning of mass production, cars were transported right to the dealers, to prevent damage in transit. The first car transporters were heavy, fully enclosed trailers and semi-trailers; the modern versions are more like a lattice cage, as nowadays each car is covered in the works with a removable wax coating and in some exceptional cases even film-wrapped for transport. These transporters are designed to provide the best possible transport system. The comparatively low weight ensures quick and economical transport. Adjustable ramps ensure the fastest possible loading and unloading in any kind of yard or on the road and enable vehicles with a wide variety of dimensions from minis to small commercial vehicles. The stable space frame forms the casing for the hydraulically adjustable ramps. Semi-trailers such as these are normally used to transport five or six vehicles and have an overall weight of about 17 tons with a payload of 8 to 12 tons.
