Naval Aviation in Space Print - Collectibles
This limited edition of a watercolor collage by artist/naval aviator R.L. Rasmussen illustrates scenes from all phases of the U.S. manned space program (Mercury through Space Shuttle). The original autographs of nine astronauts (Naval aviators) appear at the bottom of the print. These are a unique mixture of heroes from the space program, and many of these signatures are rare (like Neil Armstrong). The nine astronauts were part of a symposium held at the Naval Aviation museum in 1989. Rasmussen, curator and museum artist, published this edition as a fundraiser for the museum. The signees are Neil Armstrong (Gemini 8 and Apollo 11), Gene Cernan (Gemini 9, Apollo 10, and Apollo 17), John Glenn (Mercury 6 and Shuttle flight STS-95), Alan Shepard (Mercury 3 and Apollo 14), Charles "Pete" Conrad (Gemini 5, Gemini 11, Apollo 12, and Skylab 1), James Lovell (Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8, and Apollo 13), Wally Schirra (Mercury 8, Gemini 6, and Apollo 7), Jack Lousma (Skylab 2 and STS-3), and Rick Hauck (STS-7, STS-51A, and STS-26).This print is the only commercially-available item with the signatures of Armstrong, Glenn, and Shepard on one document. It includes the first and last men to walk on the Moon, four moonwalkers in all!
