Tinplated Wind-Up Toy Russian Rocket - Collectibles
Poyekhali! (Let's go!) That's what cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin exclaimed in 1961 as he blasted off aboard Vostok I to become the first man in space. Now, you can turn your home or office into mission control with this old-fashioned, lithographed tin-plate rocket. The rocket has Soviet red star and Cyrillic markings - including "Danger: Rocket Fuel!" and "CCCP" (USSR). Also, the rocket is powered by a friction motor so when you push it toward a wall, the spring-loaded nose cone causes it to rise on its wheeled trailer carriage. Once the rocket is upright, the side hatch opens and out pops a ladder, for heroic Yuri inside. Built in Hungary by the venerable Polimetal Factory (which warns us that this may be the last batch of rockets they'll ever make). Rocket is 15-1/2" tall. This toy is real blast from the past and a must for collectors!
