Forced to move in with her eccentric father after the tragic death of her mother, a 13-year-old girl finds a sense of purpose when she discovers a nest of abandoned goose eggs. After nurturing them to hatching stage and becoming their surrogate Mother Goose, she and her father struggle to devise a way to lead them south for the winter, ultimately sending the girl skyward in a makeshift ultralight plane.
