Thousand Acres - Drama
A big-screen adaptation of Jane Smiley's eponymous novel, which finds skeins of King Lear-like conflict running through the bedrock of a Midwestern family. When an aging farmer intends to split his thousand acres of land between his three daughters, an affront to his ego compels him to shut out the youngest, who has abandoned the farming life for a law career in Des Moines. However, the elder two prove greedy and disloyal.
